Standard
Standard is the cornerstone format of Magic: The Gathering. The rules? Straightforward—build a 60-card deck and see if your strategy can outmatch the rest. What makes Standard special is its focus on the newest card sets, keeping the action fresh and the creativity flowing. Whether you’re a seasoned pro chasing glory on the Pro Tour or a newcomer dipping your toes into the game, Standard offers a smooth and accessible path to epic battles and clever deckbuilding.

Modern
Modern is another exciting constructed format in Magic: The Gathering, where cards from Eighth Edition onward are fair game. That means a deeper card pool—and a much higher power level. If Standard feels like a street race, Modern is full-on stock car mayhem. Fast, fierce, and finely tuned.
We don’t currently host regular Modern events at House of Cards, but we’re always open to shifting gears! If you'd like to see one on the calendar, drop us a line—we’d love to set something up.
Jumpstart
Jumpstart is Magic: The Gathering at its most instant-access and wildly entertaining. Just grab two sealed packs, mash them together, and—boom—you’ve got a ready-to-play deck. You’ll battle opponents who’ve done the same, creating unpredictable matchups and chaotic fun. That’s really all there is to it!
While we don’t currently run scheduled Jumpstart events at House of Cards, we’re totally open to hosting one. Got a crew that’s ready to clash? Let us know! Or, just snag two packs and throw down with a friend anytime.
Draft
Drafting in Magic: The Gathering is a simple yet thrilling ride. Grab three booster packs, crack one open, pick a single card, and pass the rest to your right. Then, take a pack from your left, pick another card, and keep that rhythm going 'til your picks run dry. The stack you’ve curated becomes your deck—now it’s time to duel and prove your drafting chops!

Vintage & Legacy
Vintage and Legacy are Magic: The Gathering’s high-octane formats—where nearly every card in the game’s legendary history is fair game, save for a few restricted or banned ones. These formats are the F1 of Magic: blazing fast, brutally powerful, and steeped in deep strategic nuance.
While we don’t currently host Vintage or Legacy events at House of Cards, we’re always open to revving up something special. Just say the word, and we’ll get the wheels turning.
